Kung Fu movies are a lot like porn: even the worst ones are watchable with fast forwarding. In this case, we're going with the former (maybe a list of the best porn scenes is soon to come...but probably not). While most good kung fu/action films have a handful of fight scenes, there is usually one that stands about above all the rest. I present to you...the best of the best:
10. Tony Jaa in the fight club- Ong Bak : Newcomer, Tony Jaa, stars in one of the most hard-hitting films i've ever seen, Ong Bak. In this scene, Jaa goes through three different fighters. The first of which strangley resembles Slash from Guns N' Roses. Warning, this one is brutal.
9. Jean Claude Van Damme vs. Chong Li- Bloodsport: Say what you will about JCVD, but this fight is great, plus he shows some serious physical ability. and is that a young Forest Whitaker I see? I think it is...
8. Neo vs. Vampires- The Matrix Reloaded: This scene stepped up everything that was good about the fights in the first Matrix movie and represents what the final fight in the third film should have been like, fast paced, well choreographed wire fighting.
7. The Bride vs. The Crazy 88s - Kill Bill: Vol 1.: I don't know how poorly trained the members of the Crazy 88s are, but all I know is that they die like pot-head brain cells (or sperm count). Also the fight preceding this with Go-Go Yubari, and the one proceding it with Oren Isihii are both awesome as well.
6. Ziyi Zhang vs. Michelle Yeoh- Crounching Tiger Hidden Dragon: A modern classic, and the only one on the list between two women. Wire-fu at its greatest? I think so. (I can't believe Ang Lee went on to direct Brokeback Mountain after this).
5. Bruce Lee vs. Kareem Abdul Jabar- Game of Death: Bruce sporting the classic yellow jumpsuite in his final film, the Game of Death. Look at the footprint on Bruce Lee's chest when he gets kicked by his former student, Kareem!
4. The Crippled Avengers vs. Chu Twin and Chu Cho Chang - Return of the 5 Deadly Venoms: This fight has the best set up ever: 4 crippled kung fu masters overcome their handicaps in the name of vengence and ass kicking. One is blind, one is deaf, one is legless and the other is mentally impaired (master of Idiot Fu).
3. Wong Fie Hung vs. Chinese Mob - Legend of the Drunken Master: Jackie Chan gains super human fighting ability when he gets wasted. I wish that is what happened every time I got drunk...oh wait, it is.
2. Chen Zhen vs. Supreme Killer General Fujita- Fist of Legend: There is a pretty intense scene at the opening of this movie as well, but this one is untouchable. Just wait and see how Jet Li kills this guy. Bad as hell.
1. Bruce Lee vs. Japanese Dojo- Fists of Fury: This one wins for so many reasons. First off, its Bruce Lee, the finest martial artist to ever grace the screen, secondly, he takes on like 20+ japanese dudes and kicks their ass in such a way that you don't doubt he could do it in real life if provoked. Lastly, he's just got so much attitude, he walks into a their Dojo, insults them, then shows them what the fuck is up with a pair of nunchucks. Amazing.
For the record, most of these fights (Fist of Legend, Kill Bill, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, The Matrix Reloaded, & Legend of the Drunken Master) where choreogrpahed by Yuen Woo-Ping, the Scorcese of fight scenes.
This video is pretty sick. N.E.R.D. puts on a real hype live show. They start off with Spaz and then play Lapdance. Plus midway through is an awesome call-and-response drum solo between two sweet drummers.
Method Man claims Harold and Kumar stole their style. This very well may be true, but How High, is just one of 100 stoner-buddy-comedies that rank from hilarious to god forsaken. How High is certainly the former, and so is Harold and Kumar. Method also talks about How High 2 possibly in the works, which would be awesome. In honor of that golden possibility, here are some of the classic stoner duos.
Cheech & Chong: The original stoner pair. "It's like a protest tune, man..."
Jay & Silent Bob: They don't get much more raunchy then Jay and Silent Bob. Jay does most of the talking (go figure), but the two still manage to play off each other well, even though you don't actually see them doing much smoking.
Dale & Saul: Of course with a pair like this you can't go wrong. Also kudos for introducing the (my) world to the cross joint.
Bill & Ted: And how can we forget about these two lovable retards?
A lot of changes are coming real soon, with new writers, which is why I haven't been updating much. But just in case you didn't hear (yah, right) Michael Jackson died at age 50. After giving us decades of classic music, a legend has left us.
These segments are always really funny, and these two were no exceptions. He makes fun of Bruce Springsteen, TV on the Radio, The Beastie Boys and more.
This is a music video I made for my track "Sleepy-Eyed Mona" off of OuterDrive. The video is cut together using clips from the French animated film "Fantastic Planet." James and I watched this movie before recording the song, so I thought it was only fitting to make a music vid out of it.
This is the first full trailer for the new movie '2012.' I find it interesting how humans are so infatuated with their own demise. Special FX look pretty good though.
For those of you with the iPhone, Apple just released the new software update. It includes some very necessary features such as landscape typing and picture messaging (which I can't believe wasn't included in the first place).
IGN recently posted an interview with the producer of the recent Friday the 13th remake, Brad Fuller. Fuller stated: "You know, we were having a blast on the set; we want to have fun. We also want to bring things [audiences] haven't seen before and one of the things that they haven't seen before is Jason in the snow." I can see the taglines now: Jason's back, but this time...it's different.
So basically they remake a movie, AKA sold it to you twice, then they want to make a sequel to the remake, when the original already has like 20 sequels. Sounds to me like they're just selling audiences the same movie over and over. I'd rather take the 10$ I would have spent on a movie ticket, go to Blockbuster, rent Friday the 13th Parts 1-8, Jason X, and Freddy Vs. Jason, and beat Hollywood to the punch...9 times.
As far as skate videos go, this one is kind of like the Godfather. It's classic and features a pre-acting Jason Lee. On top of the great skating it features a killer soundtrack.
Soundtrack:
Intro- War - Low Rider
Guy Mariano- The Jackson 5 - I Want You Back
Jordan Richter- Black Flag - My War
Mark Gonzales- John Coltrane with the Red Garland Trio - Traneing In
Recently I've been working on coordinating an event that I like to call GREENFEST 09. It's taking place July 24th at the big Green House of W Michigan in Kalamazoo. It's going to be an all day event of food, beer, music and general good times. Currently we're working on getting a sponsor from Rockstar Energy Drinks and Quiznos. So far the line up is a lean three acts that are guarenteed to bring the house down. These acts include: The Satin Peaches, Apollo and myself.
We're really trying to make this thing a blow-out bash, so everyone within a 200 mile radius should make it a point to be in Kalamazoo on Friday, July 24th!
This is an interesting interview with Mos Def where he explains previous claims that he could take Jay-Z or Lil' Wayne in a rap battle...amongst others. He doesn't necessarily retract his statement but I don't think he's looking to start any beef with those guys. Of course lyrically, I think Mos has got it.
Recently I went to see the new movie 'The Hangover'. I thought it was pretty funny even though the plot reminded me exactly of Dude, Where's My Car? Anyways, in honor of Hollywood actually making a decent movie (which happens much to rarely these days), I thought I would post my Hangover playlist. After a long night of drinking, this Sunday morning mix will soothe your soul and your throbbing headache.
(Click Image to download selections from the Hangover Playlist)

Transformers 2 is right around the corner, and with it comes the release of the new Linkin Park video. The song isn't bad, and the video is pretty interesting. They do the same kind of glitchy effects that Kanye does in the Welcome to Heartbreak video. Plus there is some new footage from the movie.
Apparently Charles Hamilton is pulling some publicity stunt involving putting J Dilla as the executive producer for his new album. For those of you who don't know, J Dilla passed away 3 years ago (R.I.P.) and his estate is very well managed by those close to him, so obviously this wasn't gonna fly. I've never been a big fan of Hamiltion, although I did enjoy one of his mixtapes, but now I'm starting realize how much I dislike him. Check out the video below of DJ House Shoes speaking on the matter:
For those who haven't seen this video, its funny as hell. Hamiltion getting punched by his girlfriend (about 2:20 into the video) during a rap battle. Props for not hitting her back, but come on...really? What do you think those cats in Detroit are about to do to him if he gets knocked back by his own girlfriend.
After reading Anthony Kiedis' autobiography, Scar Tissue, I had a new found respect for the Chili Peppers. Here is a classic video from the early 80s off their debut album.
Here's the live version. According to the book, Kiedis was probably all messed up on coke or heroin, but it's still a damn good performance.
This is an absolutely hypnotizing video I found of Thom Yorke doing an acoustic performance on BBC2. The Red Hot Chili Peppers perform afterward, and while I'm a big peppers fan, I must say Yorke blows them away.
Here is part 2 of my top 20 favorite hip hop albums of all time. Check out cuts from each album by clicking on the cover art. If you disagree with any of the choices, tough luck...or you can voice your beef via comment.
10. Deltron 3030- Deltron 3030
(Classic Tracks: Things You Can Do, Positive Contact)
Del Tha Funkee Homosapien is one of my favorite MCs of all time, and when he came out with this collab with producer Dan the automator and Kid Koala in 00’, the results were otherworldly. A futuristic concept album, Deltron 3030 features some of Del’s best rhymes over some seriously way-out there production. This is a must for fans of Del, or even the Gorillaz, as their first album featured heavy production by Dan the Automator. 3030 even features two tracks with Gorillaz lead singer Damon Albarn.
9. Ghostface Killah- Iron Man
(Classic Tracks: Winter Warz, Daytona 500, After The Smoke Is Clear)
This album came out during the golden era of the Wu, when they could do no wrong. It continued the Ghostface/Raekwon tradition of heavily featuring each other on their albums and added Wu associated Cappadonna to the mix. The RZAs production is as sharp as ever, and the song Winter Warz should be noted as one of the best Wu-Bangers of all time. Props if you can spot the Ghostface track in the new Iron Man movie. This also deserves some recognition for badass cover art.
8. Big L- Lifestylez Ov Da Poor and Dangerous
(Classic Tracks: All Black, Put It On)
RIP to one of the greatest East Coast MCs to ever touch a mic. Each track on this album is lyrically insane, as Big L was one of the wittiest rappers to date. His style is dark and as raw as they come, but this album proved to the world that Lamont Coleman was not to fucked with. Released in 95’, this was the only studio record he released while he was alive. The album doesn’t have many features except for 8 iz Enuff which features a young Jay-Z and Cam’ron.
7. Wu-Tang Clan- Wu-Tang Forever
(Classic Tracks: Cash Still Rules, Triumph, Gravel Pit)
It was a hard choice between this and Enter the 36 Chambers, but with bangers like Triumph (which features an all-out lyrical massacre by Inspectah Deck) and Gravel Pit, this double album improves on everything we have come to love about the Wu Tang Clan. There are so many great tracks on this album that it’s hard to pick only a few to talk about. One of my favorites though, is the all-ODB Dog Shit: “You're the type of bitch don't appreciate sheeeit/Never had sheeeit, so you won't be sheeeeit/That pussy there, couldn't satisfy a hair on my body…” RIP ODB.
6. Hieroglyphics- 3rd Eye Vision
(Classic Tracks: You Never Know, Oakland Blackouts, Mics of the Roundtable)
All hail the mighty Heiro! These guys are like the West Coast Wu-Tang. A collective of MCS featuring all the members of Souls of Mischief and Del the Funkee Homosapien. While the production isn’t the most groundbreaking, the flow and lyrical content of these Oakland MCs is eons ahead of the pack. The energy and overall vibe of this disc is that of a smoked out basement in the depths of California, and I can’t get enough of it. Featuring solo tracks from each member, and a dozen group joints, this album set the bar high for the West Coast, and the entire underground hip hop scene.
5. Nas – Illmatic
(Classic Tracks: Represent, N.Y. State of Mind, Life’s A Bitch)
What top albums list would be complete without the holy grail of NY, Illmatic? Nas’ debut album is a lean 10 tracks that demand respect from anyone who puts this record on (but don’t put it in your box if your shit eats tapes). The production is tight and to the point, but what really makes this album a classic is Nas’ untouchable lyrical ability. He rips through each track like a machete through butter. Like he said on Stillmatic, “My first album had no famous guest appearances, and what’s the outcome? I’m crowned the best lyricist…”
4. The Notorious B.I.G.- Ready to Die
(Classic Tracks: Gimme The Loot, Juicy, Big Poppa)
B-I-G…P-O…P-P-A! I played this album to death when I first heard it in high school (yah, I admit, I was a little late to catch on), and I haven’t looked back since. Biggie’s flow is so dominant on every track its hard not to see why he’s seen as the legend he is today. While his second album was great, this one is by far the better-realized LP. This is another debut disc that doesn’t rely on heavy features from famous artists to make it great. In fact, the only feature is from the Method Man in The What, which features the two MCs passing the mic back in forth in on the rawest displays of NY talent on disc. Every track on this album is amazing from start to finish, and when your done, you feel like you actually know Chris Wallace as well as his partner in crime. That’s the mark of a truly great MC.
3. Eminem- The Slim Shady LP
(Classic Tracks: Guilty Conscience, If I Had, As The World Turns, Just Don’t Give A Fuck)
I was in 4th grade when this album dropped and I did everything in my power to get my hands on an unedited copy so I could listen to its outrageously vulgar tracks in secrecy. However, this album isn’t on here just for the nostalgia factor, I still listen to it regularly because it is a landmark record for so many reasons. First of all it introduced the world to Slim Shady, who officially proved that not all white rappers are wack. Second of all, the production by Dre is, as always, amazing. Third of all, this shit is straight twisted. Em talks about killing his wife, making a girl OD on mushrooms, raping a women’s swim team, just every messed up thing you can imagine. If you can get people to listen to that kind of stuff willingly (and repeatedly at that), you must have some mad talent.
2. Outkast- Southernplayalisticaddilacmuzik
(Classic Tracks: Hootie Hoo, Player’s Ball)
Are you starting to catch on to the trend? I like debut albums. This album officially put the dirty south on the map in the hip hop world, and introduced us to arguably the best rap duo of all time: Big Boi and Andre 3000. This album is dripping with style. The production by Organized Noize is a mix of G-funk popularized by Dr. Dre and dirty, sub-pumping bass mixes. A lot of people say Andre 3K is their favorite of the two rappers, but personally, I’m more of a fan of Big Boi. He flows at lighting speed with incredible delivery, coherence and relevance (not that 3K is lacking, I’m just saying…). This album is straight crusin’ music, and the vibe and feel of the whole album just makes you feel damn good.
1. Lupe Fiasco- Food & Liquor
(Classic Tracks: Daydreamin’, The Cool, American Terrorist)
In a time when hip hop was becoming incredibly stale, overproduced and ingenunine, along comes it’s savior in shining Nikes. Lupe Fiasco is a Midwest rapper out of Chi-town, and he isn’t playing around on the mic. After being featured on Kanye’s Touch The Sky, he delivered one of the most fully realized albums in hip-hop history. The lyrics, the production, the concepts, all top-notch. Lupe says a lot in each line, commenting on street life, police corruption, politics, drug use and even the skateboard culture. This is one of the few albums on the list that came out when I was first really getting into hip hop, so I got to see Lupe’s rise from underground-secret to chart-topping superstar. There’s just so much to like about this album that all I can say is go check it out if you haven’t already.
Apollo is coming out of Farmington Hills, Michigan, and dammit do they rock. Their EP, The Color Of Sound is out now, and for sale. I've had the pleasure of filming these guys at The Elbow Room in Ypsilanti and The Crofoot in Pontiac. Check out the vids below:
Apollo- Baby I'm a Mess @ The Elbow Room in Ypsilanti, MI

For those of you who don't know, E3 was this past week. E3 is a huge video game expo where all the companies come to show off their new video games for the following year. Here are some of the bigger announcements that I was excited to hear about.
In light of finishing my new mixtape with J Zula (DOWNLOAD HERE), I decided I would make a list of my top 20 favorite rap albums ever. I like an ecclectic selection of music, so these rap albums range from many different eras. You can download my Top 20 Favorite Album Sampler Vol 1: HERE. It features one of my favorite tracks from each album, albums 20-11. I tried to pick untraditional choices or B-Sides people may not have heard, cause I'm sure some of the singles have been played to death. To check out cuts off the album, click on the album art.
TOP 20 Favorite Hip Hop Albums of All Time: 20-11
20. Xzibit- At The Speed of Life (Classic Tracks: Paparazzi, Eyes May Shine)
David Carradine, star of the Kung Fu TV series and Bill from Tarantino's Kill Bill movies, was found dead in a hotel room in Bangkok. Kill Bill V0l 1 & 2 are two of my favorite movies, so I thought I would post a little tribute.
RZA did most of the music for the movies, and this track is straight fire feat. ODB.
My favorite fight scene; the color version.
David Carradine is a bad ass. Don't know why they cut this scene.
That's it for now. Don't forget to check out OuterDrive. DOWNLOAD HERE
What's good everyone, my new mixtape is out. It goes by the name of OuterDrive. Presented by myself and my DJ/Producer J Zula (AKA DJ Twelve). This is our first release since our full length album last summer, Pitch Black. It bumps real well, I suggest you test it out. The tape is short and sweet, just a taste of things to come. It also features the return of Malt Liquor, if you missed his skit on our first album, check that out, the links below.
(P.S.: I'll be posting a few tracks that didn't make the final cut in days to come, so look out for that)

The rules are simple, the song changes up every minute, and when it does, you take a shot of beer. When done correctly you should be 4-6 beers deep by the end of the hour and feeling pretty good. It's a great way to pregame and get your night started quickly.
This mix is mainly hip hop with a couple electronic songs thrown in. The tracks range from hip hop classic, to club bangers, to hidden mixtape gems, basically any track I felt like listening to at the moment. Also, I tried to pick either the chorus or my favorite verse from each track. The songs are listed below so you can look up whatever tracks you like. I'll be posting more of these power hour mixes (probably once a week) with a different theme each time. So check it out, and happy drinkin.
